Future Crimes: Everything Is Connected, Everyone Is Vulnerable and What We Can Do About It

Read Future Crimes: Everything Is Connected, Everyone Is Vulnerable and What We Can Do About It Books Online FreeThe book is nearly encyclopedic in scope, and represents a good primer in cybersecurity. It is not a how-to book, nor does the author go into detail about operating systems, internet protocols, or coding. It is a readable and informative introduction for readers who are not computer experts. I recommend that you read this soon.

One of the world’s leading authorities on global security, Marc Goodman takes readers deep into the digital underground to expose the alarming ways criminals, corporations, and even countries are using new and emerging technologies against you—and how this makes everyone more vulnerable than ever imagined.

Technological advances have benefited our world in immeasurable ways, but there is an ominous flip side: our technology can be turned against us. Hackers can activate baby monitors to spy on families, thieves are analyzing social media posts to plot home invasions, and stalkers are exploiting the GPS on smart phones to track their victims’ every move. We all know today’s criminals can steal identities, drain online bank accounts, and wipe out computer servers, but that’s just the beginning. To date, no computer has been created that could not be hacked—a sobering fact given our radical dependence on these machines for everything from our nation’s power grid to air traffic control to financial services.

Yet, as ubiquitous as technology seems today, just over the horizon is a tidal wave of scientific progress that will leave our heads spinning. If today’s Internet is the size of a golf ball, tomorrow’s will be the size of the sun. Welcome to the Internet of Things, a living, breathing, global information grid where every physical object will be online. But with greater connections come greater risks. Implantable medical devices such as pacemakers can be hacked to deliver a lethal jolt of electricity and a car’s brakes can be disabled at high speed from miles away. Meanwhile, 3-D printers can produce AK-47s, bioterrorists can download the recipe for Spanish flu, and cartels are using fleets of drones to ferry drugs across borders.

The Conscious Parent is highly recommended for readers dedicated to living their lives mindfully who are eager to have functional, rather than dysfunctional families. This book inspires parents to set examples for children by embracing imperfections, and staying open-hearted, open-minded, and truly present and engaged. If all families adopted just some of the ideas from this book, it seems clear that the world would be a much better place.

Instead of being merely the receiver of the parents' psychological and spiritual legacy, children function as ushers of the parents' development. Parents unwittingly pass on an inheritance of psychological pain and emotional shallowness. To handle the behavior that results, traditional books on parenting abound with clever techniques for control and quick fixes for dysfunction. In Dr. Shefali Tsabary's conscious approach to parenting, however, children serve as mirrors of their parents' forgotten self. Those willing to look in the mirror have an opportunity to establish a relationship with their own inner state of wholeness. Once they find their way back to their essence, parents enter into communion with their children, shifting away from the traditional parent-to-child "know it all" approach and more towards a mutual parent-with-child relationship. The pillars of the parental ego crumble as the parents awaken to the ability of their children to transport them into a state of presence.

This is the BEST & MOST important book any parent will ever read - it's a MUST read. As parents we have a lot to learn and this is book is opportunity SHOUTING. Set aside your ego, open your mind and heart when reading this book and you will see your children (and yourself) in a whole new light. Parents and children will flourish as a result. Go on YOU TUBE to hear Dr. Shefali Tsabary speak or try to catch her on TV (try OWN channel), to get even more out of her book, as she is SO personable, heartful, genuine, wise and ahead of her time.

This book approaches infant (and adult) sleep in a very scientific, factual matter, and promotes overall the idea that the key to getting a *good* night's sleep is understanding the biological and cultural function and rhythm of sleep, and then working with and not against these sleep needs in order to encourage your child (and yourself) to sleep better. The book does in some parts seem to advocate "crying it out" (CIO) through success stories but overall, CIO really presented as one of multiple alternatives.

About the Author

A pediatrician with thirty-two years of experience, Marc Weissbluth, M.D., is also a leading researcher on sleep and children. He founded the original Sleep Disorders Center at Chicago’s Children’s Memorial Hospital and is a professor of clinical pediatrics at Northwestern University School of Medicine. Dr. Weissbluth discovered that sleep is linked to temperament and that sleeping problems are related to infant colic. His landmark seven-year study on the development and disappearance of naps highlighted the importance of daytime sleep. In addition to his own research, he has written about sleep problems in manuals of pediatrics, lectured extensively to parent groups, and appeared on Oprah. Dr. Weissbluth has four sons, two grandsons, and, thankfully, one granddaughter–and they are all good sleepers. Linda, his wife of more than forty years, has provided both inspiration and original ideas for this book.

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Jackson comes an atmospheric and riveting novel of suspense that uncovers the horrifying secrets buried within a ramshackle house....

Vowing to make a fresh start, Sarah McAdams has come home to renovate the old Victorian mansion where she grew up. Her daughters, Jade and Gracie, aren’t impressed by the rundown property on the shores of Oregon’s wild Columbia River. As soon as they pull up the isolated drive, Sarah too is beset by uneasy memories—of her cold, distant mother, of the half-sister who vanished without a trace, and of a long-ago night when Sarah was found on the widow’s walk, feverish and delirious.

Ever since the original mistress of the house plunged to her death almost a century ago, there have been rumors that the place is haunted. As a girl, Sarah sensed a presence there, and soon Gracie claims to see a lady in white running up the stairs. Still, Sarah has little time to dwell on ghost stories, between overseeing construction and dealing with the return of a man from her past.

The 30 Day Heartburn Solution: A 3-Step Nutrition Program to Stop Acid Reflux Without Drugs

Read The 30 Day Heartburn Solution: A 3-Step Nutrition Program to Stop Acid Reflux Without Drugs Books Online FreeAre You Ready to Overcome Heartburn FAST?

Nexium, Zantac, Rolaids, Tums…have you tried all the drugs only to be on higher and higher doses and still experiencing heartburn? Have you heard the common nutrition advice—eat less fat, stop overeating, eliminate triggers (like delicious chocolate and wine)—and heeded it, only to be let down by your results? Maybe your symptoms, in fact, are getting worse. And this is exactly the problem with conventional treatments. They can free you of acid refluxing into your esophagus, but they often do so at the expense of your long-term health. They fix one problem but in the process cause a multitude of other ones for which more drugs are often prescribed.

Heartburn-Free Without the Drugs

You may be ready to ditch the drugs and conventional solutions and find a natural solution for your persistent heartburn…but what’s the answer? How about a 30-day plan that will eliminate heartburn and do a lot to reduce other complaints, like bloating, inflammation, fatigue, weight gain, nausea, constipation, gallbladder problems, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), to name a few? And unlike acid-blocking drugs, this plan is designed to make you healthy, not just take away your symptoms.

Craig does a good job of explaining the science behind heartburn, and why the medications that are so often prescribed, do not work. Without overwhelming the reader, Craig thoroughly walked me through the sources of heartburn, and how to turn it around. Instructions for the 30-day protocol are easy to follow, and clearly outlined. I would recommend this for anyone who is trying to cure themselves of heartburn the natural, and sustainable way! In this pioneering, practical book, Daniel J. Siegel, neuropsychiatrist and author of the bestselling Mindsight, and parenting expert Tina Payne Bryson offer a revolutionary approach to child rearing with twelve key strategies that foster healthy brain development, leading to calmer, happier children. The authors explain—and make accessible—the new science of how a child’s brain is wired and how it matures. The “upstairs brain,” which makes decisions and balances emotions, is under construction until the mid-twenties. And especially in young children, the right brain and its emotions tend to rule over the logic of the left brain. No wonder kids throw tantrums, fight, or sulk in silence. By applying these discoveries to everyday parenting, you can turn any outburst, argument, or fear into a chance to integrate your child’s brain and foster vital growth.

The Nightingale

Read The Nightingale Books Online FreeRead The Nightingale book online now. You also can download other books, magazine and also comics. Get online The Nightingale today.

Readers who think of Kristin Hannah as an author of romance novels will discover that she has written an extraordinary historical novel. While there are elements of romance scattered throughout "The Nightingale", these brief passages only serve as reminders that even in war love can survive. The greater portion of the novel focuses on the strength of love for family, the sacrifices individuals make for their love of humanity, and the courage of those who resist tyranny and the brutality of mad men. I will be recommending "The Nightingale" to my book club and to others who value fine writing and a captivating story.

In the quiet village of Carriveau, Vianne Mauriac says goodbye to her husband, Antoine, as he heads for the Front.  She doesn’t believe that the Nazis will invade France...but invade they do, in droves of marching soldiers, in caravans of trucks and tanks, in planes that fill the skies and drop bombs upon the innocent. When a German captain requisitions Vianne’s home, she and her daughter must live with the enemy or lose everything. Without food or money or hope, as danger escalates all around them, she is forced to make one impossible choice after another to keep her family alive.

=======>> DOWNLOAD BOOK NOW, CLICK HERE!! <<=======

Vianne’s sister, Isabelle, is a rebellious eighteen-year-old girl, searching for purpose with all the reckless passion of youth.  While thousands of Parisians march into the unknown terrors of war, she meets Gäetan, a partisan who believes the French can fight the Nazis from within France, and she falls in love as only the young can...completely.  But when he betrays her, Isabelle joins the Resistance and never looks back, risking her life time and again to save others.

With courage, grace and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of WWII and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women’s war.   The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France--a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women.  It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

We Are Called to Rise: A Novel

Read We Are Called to Rise: A Novel Books Online FreeThree lives are bound together by a split-second mistake, and a child’s fate hangs in the balance. What happens next will test—and restore—your faith in humanity.

Far from the neon lights of the Vegas strip, three lives are about to collide. A middle aged woman attempting to revive her marriage. A returning soldier waking up in a hospital with no memory of how he got there. A very brave eight-year-old immigrant boy.

This is a story about families—the ones we have and the ones we make. It’s a story about America today, where so many cultures and points of view collide and coexist. We Are Called to Rise challenges us to think about our responsibilities to each other and reminds us that no matter how cruel life can be in a given moment, it is ultimately beautiful to live, and live fully.

This amazing story will break your heart and then fill it up! To me, it shows that no mater what we go through in life, there is healing and love if we are patient and open to it. Don't plan to read this book on a plane, on your lunch break at work, etc. unless you don't mind a good cry in public!

The author brings these characters and their stories together skillfully. While there is overwhelming sadness at times as Ms. McBride uncovers the reality of life behind the glitter and the neon lights, there is also hope and strength as several of the main characters do indeed "rise" over seemingly unsurmountable obstacles. I highly recommend this exceptional novel and look forward to reading more by this author in the future. This would make an excellent book club book for discussion.

This book is a great read, and truly well worth your time and expense. This is a book written by a top mind and that’s what you want to do is read books by top minds, and get rid of the noise from most of what we read. There just isn’t time for it anymore. Have a great time reading “the Accidental Superpower”.

In the bestselling tradition of The World Is Flat and The Next 100 Years, THE ACCIDENTAL SUPERPOWER will be a much discussed, contrarian, and eye-opening assessment of American power.

Near the end of the Second World War, the United States made a bold strategic gambit that rewired the international system. Empires were abolished and replaced by a global arrangement enforced by the U.S. Navy. With all the world's oceans safe for the first time in history, markets and resources were made available for everyone. Enemies became partners.

In THE ACCIDENTAL SUPERPOWER, international strategist Peter Zeihan examines how the hard rules of geography are eroding the American commitment to free trade; how much of the planet is aging into a mass retirement that will enervate markets and capital supplies; and how, against all odds, it is the ever-ravenous American economy that-alone among the developed nations-is rapidly approaching energy independence. Combined, these factors are doing nothing less than overturning the global system and ushering in a new (dis)order.

For most, that is a disaster-in-waiting, but not for the Americans. The shale revolution allows Americans to sidestep an increasingly dangerous energy market. Only the United States boasts a youth population large enough to escape the sucking maw of global aging. Most important, geography will matter more than ever in a de-globalizing world, and America's geography is simply sublime.

Tinseltown: Murder, Morphine, and Madness at the Dawn of Hollywood

Read Tinseltown: Murder, Morphine, and Madness at the Dawn of Hollywood Books Online FreeNew York Times Bestseller

Edgar Award finalist for Best Fact Crime

The Day of the Locust meets The Devil in the White City and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil in this juicy, untold Hollywood story: an addictive true tale of ambition, scandal, intrigue, murder, and the creation of the modern film industry.

By 1920, the movies had suddenly become America’s new favorite pastime, and one of the nation’s largest industries. Never before had a medium possessed such power to influence. Yet Hollywood’s glittering ascendency was threatened by a string of headline-grabbing tragedies—including the murder of William Desmond Taylor, the popular president of the Motion Picture Directors Association, a legendary crime that has remained unsolved until now.

In a fiendishly involving narrative, bestselling Hollywood chronicler William J. Mann draws on a rich host of sources, including recently released FBI files, to unpack the story of the enigmatic Taylor and the diverse cast that surrounded him—including three beautiful, ambitious actresses; a grasping stage mother; a devoted valet; and a gang of two-bit thugs, any of whom might have fired the fatal bullet. And overseeing this entire landscape of intrigue was Adolph Zukor, the brilliant and ruthless founder of Paramount, locked in a struggle for control of the industry and desperate to conceal the truth about the crime. Along the way, Mann brings to life Los Angeles in the Roaring Twenties: a sparkling yet schizophrenic town filled with party girls, drug dealers, religious zealots, newly-minted legends and starlets already past their prime—a dangerous place where the powerful could still run afoul of the desperate.

A true story recreated with the suspense of a novel, Tinseltown is the work of a storyteller at the peak of his powers—and the solution to a crime that has stumped detectives and historians for nearly a century.

If you're interested in the history of early Hollywood then you'll love this book. Part history, part murder mystery, part biography, this book just clicks on all levels. The main story deals with a murder committed in the 20's but goes into the history of Hollywood during the silent film period. Its also a biography of Adolphus Zulu and Marcus Lowe, as well as a cast of minor characters.

The Fantod Pack by Edward Gorey

Read The Fantod Pack by Edward Gorey Books Online FreeThe images on these cards are exactly what you'd expect to arise from the imagination and sharp pen of Gorey. This is the Tarot reduced to what every storyteller knows people believe. Gone are any hints of hope and happiness, leaving only all the disaster, doom, and despair. Not that they can't be used for actual readings with the right frame of mind, of course. The instruction book is particularly fun, and fits the tone of the work perfectly.

Edward Gorey's trademark sense of impending doom is nowhere more darkly humorous than in this, his version of a tarot card deck. Each of the 20 cards forecasts a list of outcomes for the user ranging from the merely unpleasant (loss of hair, breakage, thwarted ambitions) to the downright horrible (catarrh, spasms, shriveling). The 32-page booklet provides interpretation of the cards courtesy of one Madame Groeda Weyrd, who Gorey tells us 'is of mixed Finnish and Egyptian extraction, has devoted her life to divination, and is the author of, among a shelf of other works, Floating Tambourines, a collection of esoteric verse, and The Future Speaks Through Entrails.' Who but Gorey to make mirth from a kaleidoscope of catastrophe?

These cards, if taken seriously, could give you nightmares ... fortunately, they're so obviously a Tarot spoof that they're simply hysterically funny! Predictions of such conditions as creeping sickness, fugues, and scales make us almost happy just to have arthritis or a head cold. The cards themselves are very well made, laminated in plastic to last pretty much forever. The box is an extra (and pleasant) surprise--it's high quality, the top and bottom fit together perfectly, and the surface feels elegant in the hand. For what you get, the price is ridiculously low! I've been a Fantod fan since the 1960s, when our family discovered the Esquire rendition, including the cards to paste on backing and cut out as well as the full introduction and meanings for the cards. The meaning of this card is whatever it evokes in the person viewing the card. If you appreciate the odd, absurd, and unsettling, Fantod is the pack for you! If you have a working knowledge of Tarot, all the better!!

Great book, worth every penny and every minute. To be served with a good glass of wine, or a cup of tea in a quiet environment. Get ready for surprises, interesting associations and intellectual delight.

With a great and widely-read book like this one, making fresh observations is difficult. While some of the historical examples seem arcane, the basic principles expressed throughout are as true today as when the book went to press almost 500 years ago. Besides being applicable to politics, 'The Prince' can also be applied to business (especially in today's world) and even love. After all: "All is fair in both love and war." Machiavelli himself was a very astute Italian politician during the Renaissance and not surprisingly, a womanizer too. He would most likely approve of the lasting popularity of his work despite the fact that during his own life, he tried to hush it up. Page for page, no book in history has said more in fewer pages. Of all the books in the elite category of "Must Read" this book stands out like a beacon.

=======>> CLICK HERE TO READ BOOK ONLINE <<=======

That Machiavelli’s name has become synonymous with cold-eyed political calculation only heightens the intrinsic fascination of The Prince–the world’s preeminent how-to manual on the art of getting and keeping power, and one of the literary landmarks of the Italian Renaissance. Written in a vigorous, straightforward style that reflects its author’s realism, this treatise on states, statecraft, and the ideal ruler is essential reading for anyone seeking to understand how human society actually works.

This book shows how, for the fist time, political theorists broke with the medieval tradition "Do what God wants and you'll stay in power", and realized that there were times when what was effective was not always what was moral. Niccolo Machiavelli showed a stunned audience (though a very small audience at the time) how to effectively use power as a ruler to cause your subjects to fear, and thus be loyal to you. While you may not agree with his ideas, they are stated in such an understandable and matter-of-fact manner that you have to at least think about them for a while.

Little Heathens: Hard Times and High Spirits on an Iowa Farm During the Great Depression

Read Little Heathens: Hard Times and High Spirits on an Iowa Farm During the Great Depression Books Online FreeI tell of a time, a place, and a way of life long gone. For many years I have had the urge to describe that treasure trove, lest it vanish forever. So, partly in response to the basic human instinct to share feelings and experiences, and partly for the sheer joy and excitement of it all, I report on my early life. It was quite a romp.

So begins Mildred Kalish’s story of growing up on her grandparents’ Iowa farm during the depths of the Great Depression. With her father banished from the household for mysterious transgressions, five-year-old Mildred and her family could easily have been overwhelmed by the challenge of simply trying to survive. This, however, is not a tale of suffering.

Little Heathens offers a loving but realistic portrait of a “hearty-handshake Methodist” family that gave its members a remarkable legacy of kinship, kindness, and remembered pleasures. Recounted in a luminous narrative filled with tenderness and humor, Kalish’s memoir of her childhood shows how the right stuff can make even the bleakest of times seem like “quite a romp.”

If you're looking for a followup read to Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House books and/or Ralph Moody's Little Britches series, look no further than Mildred Armstrong Kalish's Little Heathens. It's early 20th-century, not 19th, but Kalish's book includes all the stuff your dear child loved about Laura Ingalls Wilder and more. There's less of a storyline--more short chapters on individual topics of farm and family life--than the Wilder books, but it's amazing. You'll love it.

Over 200 million Americans consume food products made of wheat every day. As a result, over 100 million experience some form of adverse health effect, ranging from minor rashes to high blood sugar to unattractive stomach bulges preventative cardiologist William Davis calls "wheat bellies." According to Davis, that excess fat has nothing to do with gluttony, sloth, or too much butter: it’s due to the whole grain wraps we eat for lunch.

=======>> CLICK HERE TO READ BOOK ONLINE <<=======

After witnessing over 2,000 patients regain health after giving up wheat, Davis reached the disturbing conclusion that wheat is the single largest contributor to the nationwide obesity epidemic—and that elimination of wheat is key to dramatic weight loss and optimal health. In national bestseller, Dr. Davis exposes the harmful effects of what is actually a product of genetic tinkering and agribusiness being sold to the American public as "wheat"—and provides readers with a user-friendly, step-by-step plan to navigate a new wheat-free lifestyle.

Informed by cutting-edge science and nutrition, along with case studies from men and women who have experienced life-changing transformations in health after waving goodbye to wheat, Wheat Belly is an illuminating look at what is truly making Americans sick and an action plan to clear our plates of this seemingly benign ingredient.

This book is packed with good research-based information. The author reveals all that she discovered in her studies trying to find the cause of her symptoms so she could treat it and feel better. Not everything she learned helped her, but she reports it anyway in case it may be of help to someone else. The book contains many personal scenarios illustrating how what she found has helped her imbalances, and it may work for you, too. There was lots of explanations of how Hashimoto's depletes certain vitamins and minerals, their role in metabolism, and why supplementing can help with certain symptoms (such as hair loss). A very intellectual, research-based approach to Hashimoto's thyroiditis that goes beyond just thyroid medications. Very helpful- I highly recommend it!

What’s Really Going on in Hashimoto’s? Hashimoto's is more than just hypothyroidism. Most patients with Hashimoto's will present with acid reflux, nutrient deficiencies, anemia, intestinal permeability, food sensitivities, gum disorders and hypoglycemia in addition to the “typical” hypothyroid symptoms such as weight gain, cold intolerance, hair loss, fatigue and constipation. The body becomes stuck in a vicious cycle of immune system overload, adrenal insufficiency, gut dysbiosis, impaired digestion, inflammation, and thyroid hormone release abnormalities.

=======>> DOWNLOAD BOOK NOW, CLICK HERE!! <<=======

This cycle is self-sustaining and will continue causing more and more symptoms until an external factor intervenes and breaks the cycle apart. The lifestyle interventions discussed in this book aim to dismantle the vicious cycle piece by piece. We start with the simplest modifications, by removing triggers, and follow with repairing the other broken systems to restore equilibrium, allowing the body to rebuild itself.
