I strongly recommend this book to all. Dawkins is one of the best thinkers of our time. Undoubtedly he will continue to be attacked for not being "charming," as one reviewer has written, or for not pandering to the egos of supernaturalists, but he is a fearless scholar who uses clear reasoning to reject religion and all its silliness.

And why, indeed, should anyone take pains to assure believers that they aren't "stupid" when they believe in something without a single iota of evidence? What would we say about someone who professed a belief in fairies or unicorns? Ought we to show respect for such unsupported beliefs? Dawkins maintains that we should not; by respecting unsupported supernatural beliefs, we are enabling the delusion to linger. He proposes that we treat the religiously delusional as we'd treat flat-earthers or alchemists. He offers the world a much needed dose of common sense.

About the Author

Richard Dawkins taught zoology at the University of California at Berkeley and at Oxford University and is now the Charles Simonyi Professor of the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford, a position he has held since 1995. Among his previous books are The Ancestor’s Tale, The Selfish Gene, The Blind Watchmaker, Climbing Mount Improbable, Unweaving the Rainbow, and A Devil’s Chaplain. Dawkins lives in Oxford with his wife, the actress and artist Lalla Ward.
